The Driverless Parking Era: Robots Move Your Car, So You Don't Have to Search for It

Self-navigating without QR codes or rails—deployable in existing parking lots
Expected to expand parking capacity by more than 30% within the same footprint

HL Robotics announced that it is accelerating its push into the driverless parking market with 'PARKIE,' the world's first indoor autonomous parking robot, developed in-house.

PARKIE is an AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot)-based parking solution: once the driver leaves the vehicle in a designated drop-off zone, the robot moves under the vehicle on its own, precisely calculates the vehicle's center of gravity and the distance between its wheels, then lifts the car and relocates it to an available space. This fundamentally eliminates the hassle and waiting time of drivers circling a lot in search of an empty spot.

PARKIE's defining feature is that it requires no separate infrastructure—such as QR codes, magnetic strips, or rails—installed on the parking lot floor. Because it operates in a fully autonomous manner, with the robot directly recognizing obstacles, empty spaces, and driving paths, it can be introduced into existing parking facilities without large-scale renovation.

Its performance is equally competitive. Despite an ultra-slim design measuring only around 9 cm in height, PARKIE can lift vehicles weighing up to three tons, accommodating everything from compact cars to large SUVs. It also moves with a turning motion similar to that of a vehicle, minimizing floor damage and enabling efficient parking even in tight spaces.

HL Robotics has designed PARKIE to integrate not only with self-parking facilities but also with lift-type and mechanical parking systems. The concept allows for flexible application—a hybrid approach for existing parking lots, and a fully unmanned robotic parking system for new buildings. In particular, adopting the robotic parking solution can increase parking capacity by more than 30% within the same footprint, while also reducing ramps and pedestrian walkways to deliver savings in construction costs.

Beyond addressing the shortage of parking space, PARKIE is expected to contribute to broader social value, including the prevention of door-ding accidents and improved mobility convenience for people with limited mobility.

Kim Yoon-ki, CEO of HL Robotics, said, "PARKIE enhances hardware reliability to a higher level by applying drive and control technologies proven in the automotive parts sector to robotics," adding, "It is a solution that maximizes the efficiency of parking space while providing users with a safer and more convenient parking experience."

He continued, "HL Robotics will lead the transition from an era in which drivers wander through parking lots themselves to one in which robots move vehicles on their own."
